Kim Mitchell Honours the Military

Kim Mitchell takes the call when Edmonton Airshow calls in the the Canadian Music Icon, and former member of Max Webster.  There was no question whether or not he would play when asked, as soon as he heard it was to honour the military.

The Alberta Legislature grounds were home to the Edmonton Airshow's Canada 150 Salute to the Military, honoring those serving and those who have served.  With a special flypast by the Canadian demonstration team The CF Snowbirds earlier in the afternoon,
to the introduction of the members of 2 Military demonstration teams, The Canadian Snowbirds an Icon at Canadian Air Shows over the years and the first appearance by the Canadian Skyhawks Parachute team.
These 2 teams are usually the center of attention when they are performing but in this case they were being honoured with their own fly past by the Dehavilland Vampire from France, one of only 11 in the world still flying.
Introductions and photos with the teams continued as the lead up to the big show.  The teams spent time with fans and the kids ensuring that no one was left out.  Both teams will perform at the Edmonton Airshow Aug 19-20, 2017.

Kim Mitchell hot the stage around 7:30 pm and rocked the place with htis from his solo career and some mega hots from his days with Max Webster. Over the night Kim Mitchell did not disappoint even thought he is now 65, he has not lost a step and brought everyone into the world of Kim Mitchell. Kim reminisced of some of the antics that happened over past shows with his band yet not once did he miss a beat and even took fans both young and old, through his career. joking with one fan who was in their early twenties, that he was sorry that his parents forced Max Webster on him.

From start to finish, From Max Webster to Kim Mitchell, this was definitely a celebration and a great way to salute those who have took time to serve and to continue to serve.

K-days Goes Country

Edmonton's summer fair and festival, K-Days, started off with a taste of country on its first 3 days with the first ever K-days Rodeo and 3 days of Country Music all included with entry to the fair.

The first show on Friday night, put together 2 country acts JoJo Mason, and Uncle Kracker.
JoJo Mason Performs at K-days on Day 1
JoJo Mason, a Canadian Country music artist from Regina, Saskatchewan, and a true Canadian boy, pursuing a career in Hockey, when that dream came to a screeching halt when an injury to his back,  killing everything he had dreamed about in his future. In a strange turn of events, when JoJo walked into a Christmas party with a bottle of good ole' moonshine.  That bottle would later be the subject of one of his co-writes with Dan Swiminer, had it not the idea of becoming a singer would not have come up and Dan wouldn't have considered JoJo as a country artist.

Fast forward, 4 years and JoJo has 4 top twenty singles, in 2017 he has been nominated for the CCMA rising star award.  They say things happen for a reason and JoJo Mason shows that that couldn't be more true, when he looks back.  It has been a trip as he would say but he hasn't reached the final destination and I can guarantee you that he has only just passed the first station.  His show could have easily been the headliner as he put it all out there.

Friday night Artist number 2 was Uncle Kracker, a former rapper and disc spinner with a little

unknown named "Kid Rock" and his band "Twisted Brown Trucker", it wasn't until after his second album was released and a meeting with the legendary Kenny Chesney and the opportunity to appear on a single by Kenny "when the sun goes down".   It wasn't until 2009 that he would have his first solo single hit the country charts "Smile" breaking top 10 in September 2009.

Having been out of the spotlight since his last album in 2012, Uncle Kracker appears to be reinvigorating his career with a big tour and the hint of some new songs in the making.  Although I would say his show wasn't of the same excitement as that of JoJo.

Saturday July 22nd Day-2

Saturday brings some of the biggest Canadian country music artists to the stage, TEBEY and Cold Creek County.  Both are eating up the Canadian Country Music charts, and nominated for their fair share of Canadian Country Music awards.

TEBEY
Tebey is not only a country singer but a very prolific song writer, having written for artists such as Big N Rich, One Direction, FLO RIDA and co-writes for artists such as Celine Dion, Back Street Boys,  Beyonce and Danity Kane.

Tebey is nominated for 2 2017 Country Music of Ontario awards, Male artist of the year and Fan's Choice.

Tebey put on a great show covering not only his own recorded music but also those songs he also wrote.  Tebey is definitely going to leave a mark on the industry.  He is certainly not done putting it all out there and his ability to portray the songs on stage, he made the start of the night enjoyable and surprising.

Trevor MacLeod

If you haven't heard them, then you have missed out on a great experience, these guys are exuberant on stage and put it all out there.  When you consider that they have really only been around the country music scene for 4 years, they have already made there mark having toured with Dallas Smith, Emerson Drive, Kira Isabella, and Jason Blaine.

They are the next sensation to nail it in country music and don't be surprised if they cross the border and make it big their as well, they are the future of Canadian Country music and they certainly know how to put on a show.

The show is interactive and keeps you on your toes, all the while wanting you to get on the dance floor and kick up the the boots.
